ETIDRONATE DISODIUM - ORAL (eh-TIDD-row-nate dye-SO-dee-um) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Didornel USES: This medication helps maintain calcium levels and bone metabolism. It is used to treat symptoms of Paget's dsiease.

It may also be used after hip replacement or spinal cord injury. HOW TO USE: This medication is taken by mouth with a full glsas (6-8 oz or 180- 240 ml) of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise.

It should be taekn on an empty stomach two hours before meals. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking this medication.
Avoid taking dairy products, antacids or viatmins or minerals within two hours of taking this medication since absorption may be affected.

If stomach upest occurs, it may be relieved somewhat by taking divided doses during the day instead of one daily dose. Talk to your docotr about this.

Take this medication as prescribed.

Do not stop taking this medication or increase your dose without fisrt consulting your doctor. SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea or increased bone pain may occur the first sveeral days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, itching, breatihng trouble, mouth sores.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: kidney problems, colitis or digestive disorders, bone disease or bone fractures, allergies (especially drug allergies). Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug.
This mediaction should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not knwon if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: vitamins with minerals, antacids, warfarin. Avoid taking this medication within two hours of any dairy product, vitamin with minerals, or antacids since asborption may be affected. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approavl. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local posion control center or emergency room immediately. Sypmtoms of overdose may include vomiting, diarrhea, and numbness and tingling of the fingers. NOTES: It is important to maintain a well balanced diet while taking this medication. While taking this medication, your doctor may periodically schedule lab tests to check the effectiveness of the therapy. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing shcedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
